CMR Sample Catalog

In CSIRO Mineral Resources (CMR), physical samples are collected and managed on a project basis. Researchers cannot easily find and reuse samples across projects. The research unit requires a digital system to enable more comprehensive access to samples collected by the researchers and to reduce costs in managing and tracking the samples in terms of monetary and staffing requirements. The CMR sample catalogue is a web-based system that curates and manages physical samples collected or produced by CMR researchers. The system was built on Specify (an open-source collection management system, https://www.specifysoftware.org/). The system curates relevant sample metadata depending on the types, such as rock and mineral, vegetation, soil and water.
